body
BACKGROUND

This action will authorize grant acceptance between ASPCA and the City of Dallas, Dallas Animal Services (DAS) to fund the purchase of pet food for animals in DAS' care.

DAS exceeded its animal food budget in FY19 and FY20 and anticipates that it will exceed its animal food budget again in FY21. In previous years, DAS has been able to reallocate funding from other line items or lean on its Friends of DAS non-profit partner to purchase food once the budget had been exasperated. However, with COVID-19 budget cuts, DAS does not expect to have funding to reallocate and is leaning heavily on Friends of DAS to support staff training and the development of its innovative new programs designed to maintain a high rate of lifesaving in the COVID-19 world. Therefore, DAS has secured a one-time COVID-19 emergency relief grant from ASPCA to enable DAS to continue feeding pets in its care the high quality and specialty foods needed to ensure a good health and quality of life in its population.
