Authorize the (1) acceptance of a grant from Maddie’s Fund in the amount of $50,000.00 to be used to fund temporary staff and supplies for innovative, Human Animal Support Systems (HASS) model lifesaving programs for the period December 14, 2020 through July 1, 2021; (2) receipt and deposit of funds in an amount not to exceed $50,000.00 in the Maddie’s Fund HASS Pilot Shelter Fund; and (3) establishment of appropriations in an amount not to exceed $50,000.00 in the Maddie’s Fund HASS Pilot Shelter Fund - Not to exceed $50,000.00 - Financing: Maddie’s Fund Grant Funds

BACKGROUND
This action will authorize grant acceptance between Maddie’s Fund and the City of Dallas, Dallas Animal Services to fund temporary staff and supplies for innovative, HASS-model lifesaving programs.
In response to COVID-19, American Pets Alive created Human Animal Support Systems (HASS) to reimagine the operational structure, programming, and role of animal shelters in communities across America. HASS aims to implement a social services-inspired methodology that supports pet owners in the community with the aim of keeping pets with their families and continues to prioritize public safety. DAS was asked to be a Tier 1 Pilot Shelter for the HASS Program and is working to implement a variety of innovative, lifesaving programs recommended by HASS.
Maddie’s Fund’s HASS Pilot Shelter Grants are designed to help pilot shelters roll out innovative programs and measure their impact within the community.
