Authorize the purchase of two diesel crack sealant melters for the Department of Public Works with Crafco, Inc. through The Local Government Purchasing Cooperative (BuyBoard) agreement - Not to exceed $121,471.39 - Financing: General Fund

Body

BACKGROUND

This item will provide for the purchase of two diesel crack sealant melters for the Department of Public Works. The diesel crack melters are used to heat crack sealing materials to fill in cracks on local streets, roads, and parking lots. Powered by a diesel engine and burner that heats the crack sealant to the correct temperature for application.

The Department of Public Works maintains the condition of streets and roadways by pre-emptively filling the cracks with the sealant. This helps to delay costly and time-consuming road reconstruction projects. If the City does not proactively fill in the cracks in the street with sealer, the condition of the streets and roadways will worsen due to the small cracks widening and expanding into major potholes and major road reconstruction.

The Local Government Purchasing Cooperative (BuyBoard) agreement is authorized by Chapter 791 of the Texas Government Code and Subchapter F, Chapter 271, Texas Local Government Code.  Section 271.102 of the Texas Local Government Code which authorizes a local government to participate in a Cooperative Purchasing Program with another local government or a local cooperative organization.
