Body
BACKGROUND

Dallas Water Utilities (DWU) currently owns and operates a 54-inch diameter wastewater interceptor that was built in 1956 along the Five Mile Creek side of Glendale park. The wastewater line has reached the end of its functional life and a section of the pipeline had to be repaired on an emergency basis due to pipe failure in June 2019. Additionally, the current wastewater line is undersized for anticipated future capacity needs as determined by a 2019 Wastewater Collection System Assessment Study.

DWU evaluated several alignment options and proposed to install a 72-inch diameter wastewater line and two parallel semi-elliptical wastewater lines in areas where there is not adequate depth for a 72-inch diameter pipeline. The installation of the proposed segment will improve the capacity of the wastewater system and reduce maintenance costs by replacing the existing line that has reached the end of its useful life.

This action will authorize a construction services contract with John Burns Construction Company of Texas, Inc., for the installation of approximately 4,250 linear feet of pipelines, including the installation of approximately 100 feet of 12-inch diameter, 2,500 feet of 39.4-inch by 63-inch parallel semi-elliptical pipes, and 1,650 feet of 72-inch diameter wastewater mains.

The existing wastewater interceptor within Glendale Park is in very poor condition and the potentia...
