BACKGROUND

On August 30, 2018, and August 27, 2020, the Texas Transportation Commission passed minute orders 115291 and 115814, respectively, authorizing the State to undertake and complete a highway improvement or other transportation project generally described as bridge widening improvements. On March 24, 2021, City Council authorized an Advanced Funding Agreement (AFA) with Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) for the portion of the project work identified as the construction on the bridge over IH 20 at Bonnie View Road, including bridge widening to add turn lanes, sidewalk and approach roadway improvements as well as the replacement of traffic signals on Bonnie View Road in the City of Dallas by Resolution No. 21-0495.

This project is an on-system project being constructed by TxDOT. The project is federally funded through a Surface Transportation Block Grant and the required match was paid by TxDOT. Although this is a TxDOT project, because the City initiated the request for the project, the City agreed to pay any cost overruns or change orders.

State and federal funding approved for this project totals $2,718,645.00 and the engineer's cost estimate was $2,481,972.00.
