BACKGROUND

The City's stormwater permit requires control of the quality of stormwater discharged within the City. Specifically, the permit requires implementation of programs to collect and recycle, reuse, or properly dispose of Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) and to make those programs available to the residential sector. This program meets those permit requirements and prevents collected HHW from being improperly disposed of and entering the storm drainage system, including local and regional creeks, streams, rivers, and lakes.

Since FY 1994-95, Dallas County, with support from area cities, has taken an active role in addressing the safe disposal of HHW regionally. The City of Dallas (the City) is one of the cities which participate in the Dallas Area HHW Network, a consortium of 16 participating Dallas County cities. The participating cities enter into an interlocal agreement, or renew an existing one, with Dallas County each year. The City's current five-year (initial year with four 1-year renewal options) interlocal agreement will be expired at the end of FY 2021-22.
