BACKGROUND
Chapter IV, §9, of the City Charter provides that the City Council shall canvass and certify the results of a city election in accordance with the provisions of the Texas Election Code. Section 67.003(c) of the Texas Election Code provides the canvass must occur “not later than the 14th day after an election.” The 14th day falls on Tuesday, November 22, 2022.
This action authorizes the Mayor to appoint an ad hoc canvassing committee to meet and review the returns of the Tuesday, November 8, 2022 special election; and submit a canvass report to the full City Council at the regular scheduled meeting on Wednesday, November 16, 2022 City Council meeting or at a special called city council meeting, in accordance with the state-mandated deadline.
