Body
BACKGROUND
This action will authorize a construction services contract with Gibson & Associates, Inc. for the construction of the Lamar Street Streetscape, Lamar Street from Wood Street to Elm Street.
The project scope consists of wide decorative sidewalks along Lamar Street from Wood Street to Elm Street; light-emitting diodes. pedestrian lights, trees, an irrigation system, decorative trash receptacles, bike racks, shared bike lanes, benches, continental/ladder pavement markings for pedestrian crosswalks, new barrier free ramps, and new Texas Department of Transportation traffic signals at the three intersections of Lamar Street with Jackson Street, Commerce Street and Elm Street, driveways; and new high density micro-surfacing treatment.
Gibson & Associates, Inc.is a Balch Springs-based corporation and is a registered vendor with the City of Dallas.

If this project is not awarded for construction at this time, existing amenities to pedestrians, cyclists and vehicular traffic will not be able to experience future outdoor activities in an improved and safer environment; and three intersections will not add current safety features for pedestrians/cyclists and vehicular traffic. The existing street will continue to deteriorate causing additional pavement cracking and potholes to form, creating additional maintenance costs for the City and potential damages to vehicles utilizing the street. Field conditions may also change, which will require modifications to the engineering design plans, requiring additional funding and time to address.
