Body

BACKGROUND

This action will authorize a construction services contract with DDM Construction Corporation for the construction of two street reconstruction thoroughfare projects as Street Reconstruction Group 12-463.

This project group was funded in the 2012 Bond Program. However, the construction phase was delayed due to necessary coordination with the Texas Department of Transportation to accommodate their Lyndon B. Johnson East Freeway Project, which proposed to raise Woodmeadow Parkway at La Prada Drive by 10-feet and eliminate the Woodmeadow Parkway bridge over Long Branch Creek.

The project group scope consists of reconstructing the existing deteriorating roadways with new 11-inch thick, reinforced concrete pavement, with curb and gutter, sidewalks, drive approaches, storm drainage, street lighting, traffic signal, rehabilitation of the existing wastewater main and other miscellaneous items necessary to complete the project.

DDM Construction Corporation is an Addison based corporation, and it is a registered vendor with the City of Dallas.

Following are the locations and construction costs for each project:

Project                     Council District                     Amount

Maple Avenue from 800 feet South of

Mockingbird Lane to Mockingbird Lane                     2                    $2,183,789.00

Woodmeadow Parkway from La Prada

Drive West to end of divided roadway                     9                    $4,305,931.23

The following chart illustrates DDM Construction Corporation’s contractual activities with the City of Dallas for the past three years:

                     PBW                     DWU                     PKR                     TRN

Projects Completed by Bonding Company                     0                     0                     0                     0

If this project group is not awarded for construction at this time, the streets will continue to deteriorate causing additional pavement cracking and potholes to form, creating additional maintenance costs for the City and potential damages to vehicles utilizing the streets. Field conditions may also change, which will require modifications to the engineering design plans, requiring additional funding and time to address.
