BACKGROUND

The Department of Housing and Neighborhood Revitalization (Housing) has identified a need for home repairs for senior citizens. The National Medicare Health Insurance defines persons over the age of 65 as senior citizens, therefore the Program benefits will align with Medicare's definition of a senior citizen.

Housing will use this age requirement to align resources available for this population. Targeting this age group allows Housing the ability to assist a population on a fixed income with housing rehabilitation needs. The Program will address home repairs to provide assistance to low- to moderate-income senior citizens at or below 80% of the area median income (AMI). The Program will provide a grant of up to $10,000.00 per household for repairs to homes.
