BACKGROUND
This action will authorize an application for the Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside (TA Set-Aside) Call for Projects Program in the amount of $6,275,517.00 from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) for the Five Mile Creek Trail project located between South Westmoreland Road and South Hampton Road.
On December 2, 2022, TxDOT announced a statewide Call for Projects for the TA Set-Aside program (including available and anticipated future funds) for bicyclist and pedestrian infrastructure and planning. TxDOT administers the Transportation Alternatives annual competitive grants.
Dallas Park & Recreation is partnering with the Trust for Public Land (TPL) to construct a 1.1 mile long, 12-foot-wide shared use path (SUP) along the north side of the Five Mile Greenbelt from South Westmoreland Road to South Hampton Road along with approximately 908 linear feet (0.2 miles) of sidewalk improvements to connect the SUP safely to Zan Wesley Holmes Jr. Middle School. The proposed shared use path will consist of 12-foot-wide multi-use paths, bridges, and creek crossings, crosswalks, wayfinding and signage, American's with Disabilities Act (ADA) ramps, a pedestrian hybrid beacon, and erosion control.
