Title

Authorize Supplemental Agreement No. 1 to the professional services contract with Freese and Nichols, Inc. for the design and engineering of the Mockingbird Pedestrian Bridge Repair Project - Not to exceed $172,618.00, from $201,980.00 to $374,598.00 - Financing: General Fund

Body

BACKGROUND

The original contract award was to perform a condition assessment of the 123 pedestrian bridges within the Dallas parks system by visual inspections of each of the bridges based on the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) and Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) standards. The inspection included documenting any sign of spalls, cracking, movement and settlement, distortion, corrosion or distress with photographs and notes, and developing reports and an ArcGIS online database for the same.

Supplemental Agreement No. 1 will provide schematic design to address the repair and renovation of the Mockingbird Pedestrian Bridge abutment walls by demolishing the façade on the existing cracked side walls and replacing with a rain screen wall cladding system, that will allow any moisture that is present below the bridge deck to easily exit the wall and will also allow air movement to keep the cavity dry. The rain screen can also be provided with an anti-graffiti resistant coating system. The open joint of the system will allow water to exit the wall system and will allow for the air movement to keep the cavity dry and help reduce extreme heat build-up in the cavity.

This action will authorize Supplemental Agreement No. 1 to the professional services contract with Freese and Nichols, Inc. for an increase to the design and engineering services for the Mockingbird Pedestrian Bridge Repair Project to repair the abutment walls of the Mockingbird Pedestrian Bridge in the amount of $172,618.00, increasing the contract amount from $201,980.00 to $374,598.00.
