BACKGROUND

 

The Dallas Youth Scholarship aims to promote the pursuit of higher education by providing financial assistance to overachieving students.

 

A goal prize pool of $30,000.00 where 1st place receives $15,000.00, 2nd place $10,000.00 and 3rd place $5,000.00.

 

Unlike traditional scholarships, DYS is entirely led by and operated by youth.

 

The Dallas Youth Commission will be in charge of reviewing applicants and selecting finalists.

 

PRIOR ACTION/REVIEW (COUNCIL, BOARDS, COMMISSIONS)

 

The Workforce, Education, & Equity Committee was briefed on the “Dallas Youth Commission Update Regarding FY 21-22 and FY 22-23 Strategic Plan and Dallas Youth Scholarship” on April 10, 2023.

 

FISCAL INFORMATION

 

No cost consideration to the City. Prize funds will be awarded directly from a non-profit organization.
