BACKGROUND

 

The Office of Arts and Culture, in collaboration with Dallas Water Utilities, seeks approval to designate 110 West Commerce Street for a memorial plaque to be installed at this location to mark the tragic lynching of William Allen Taylor. Dallas Water Utilities has jurisdiction over the site.

 

The Dallas County Justice Initiative and Remembering Black Dallas, Inc. have worked with the Equal Justice Initiative in Montgomery, Alabama to have the memorial plaque fabricated to commemorate and memorialize this event in the City’s history.

 

To further the goals of the Racial Equity Plan, this action will continue acknowledging and recognizing the historical events that have shaped the City and raise awareness to residents of this tragic event.
