BACKGROUND

This action does not encumber funds; the purpose of a service price agreement is to establish firm pricing for services, for a specific term, which are ordered on an as needed basis according to annual budgetary appropriations. The estimated amount is intended as guidance rather than a cap on spending under the agreement, so that actual need combined with the amount budgeted will determine the amount spent under this agreement.

This service price agreement will allow for veterinary services for the Police Department's canine and equine units and the Fire-Rescue Department's canine unit. These services are vital in providing emergency care and providing health care to maintain the animals' health.

The police dogs of the Police Department's Canine Squad are a specialized European breed which require the veterinarian to be specialized in the care of European working dogs. The services are provided for 22 police dogs for divisions within the Dallas Police Department including:

* Tactical Services
* The Special Weapons and Tactics Unit
* Narcotics at Love Field and Dallas/Fort Worth Airport Task Forces
* Federal Aviation Administration Bomb Dog Program
