BACKGROUND

In 2013, the City of Dallas completed a Comprehensive Dredge Management Plan to quantify dredging needs across the City. The plan identified ponds and lakes actively managed or included as floodway areas managed by the City or through agreements with homeowners' associations. The plan determined that 100 sites including lakes, sumps, and retention/detention basins require maintenance dredging and these sites were subsequently classified as high, medium, and low priority based on associated flood risks.
The City of Dallas Water Utilities Department (DWU) and Dallas Parks and Recreation Department have subsequently identified funding to proceed with the dredging design of eight sites as the first phase of implementing recommendations from the Comprehensive Dredge Management Plan. This action will authorize a professional services contract with Pacheco Koch Consulting Engineers, Inc. to provide engineering services for the investigation, preliminary design, permitting, development of construction plans and specifications, bid phase services and construction observation for dredging improvements at these sites.
