BACKGROUND

As established in Chapter 2, Article X of Dallas City Code, the Public Art Program of the Office of Arts and Culture works to include works by visual artists in public places of the City using a percentage of city capital improvement projects. Under this program, a commission for artwork at Fire Station No. 36 was initiated via engagement with the Department of Public Works and Dallas Fire Department staff.

Michael Pavlovsky was recommended for this Public Art project by the selection panel comprised of art professionals, representatives from Fire Station No. 36, and representatives from the Department of Public Works.

Artist Background

Michael D. Pavlovsky is an artist specializing in painting and sculptures; and began his lifelong pursuit as a student under Patrick Carter. Pavlovsky earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Landscape Architecture from Texas A & M University in 1982; and he was awarded a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of North Texas in 1990. His work includes over ninety juried and invitational exhibitions. Pavlovsky has previously completed two public art projects for the City of Dallas and has received numerous awards throughout the United States and Japan for his work.
