BACKGROUND

As part of the City Hall Electrical Upgrade, a project in the 2017 Bond Program, a partial power interruption was scheduled where the Critical Infrastructure load was transferred from the old Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) to the newly installed UPS. During this process, some of the infrastructure in the Data Center was affected. As a result, staff assessed the malfunction and it was determined that the existing Power Distribution Units (PDUs) do not have enough capacity to safely support the load transfer during the proposed second partial power interruption; the City's existing PDUs were running at higher capacity. The Data Center houses the City's information technology services (ITS) infrastructure and servers critical to all City operations, including Public Safety. With increased loads being added due to COVID-19 related needs, two additional PDUs and two electrical panels will need to be purchased and installed to safely support the load transfer during the second partial power interruption. Schneider Electric Buildings Americas, Inc. was selected following a qualifications-based selection process in accordance with the City of Dallas procurement guidelines.
