BACKGROUND

Since 1974, the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC), previously referred to as the Department of State Health Services, has funded the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) in Dallas. The WIC Program provides nutritious food, nutrition education, breastfeeding promotion and support, and referrals to health and social services.
